Hello,
Yesterday I saw Star Wars VII (it was amazing!) and I was wondering why it says "May the force be with you" and not "The force be with you".
Why "May"?
In general, may is used for suggestion or polite questions isn't it? . But "May the force he with you" is not a suggestion, but a expression like "good luck!".
Could you explain to me because I'm just a little padawan in English
Thanks and have a good day!

Good morning,
I'm not a Jedi knight, nevertheless I think that's a subjunctive tense
"May the truth be with me"
Have a good day

Hello!
Les inversions ont souvent valeur de subjonctif : Had he been in better shape, I would have...
Should you be absent, tell me.
However difficult it may be, I don't care.
Difficult as it may be, I don't care.
A young bra, be he ever so ski(l)lful, is always a young bra.
