Hello Everyone,
In an exercise I have encountered the following situation.
I wish dance music was more popular.
OR
I wish dance music were more popular.
I am for the second form, but the author is for the first one.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

"Were" can be used instead of "was", especially in a formal style.
