Hello Assala,

contrary is an adjective, and contrarily is an adverb.
contrary means contraire, opposé.
contrarily means contrairement.
contrarily to what he said, he doesn't play tennis.
Peter and his sister have two contrary characters.
See you.

Hello

contrary can be a noun or an adjective. As an adjective, it can have various meanings.
Here are some examples of contrary used as an adjective:

contrarily, as dolfine has already said, is an adverb.
Here are some examples of how to use it:
I like music. Contrarily, my brother likes sports.
Some people behave contrarily even though they say they were taught to be diplomatic by their parents!

Hello,
The word ‘contrary’ means ‘opposite’ as per the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary, but ‘contrary’ is not exactly the ‘opposite’ as per the Fowler’s Dictionary of Modern English Usage, a better source of correct English. It says the contrary of ‘This is white’ is ‘This is not white’ whereas the opposite of it is ‘This is black’.
To learn the precise meaning of the word ‘contrary’ or its exact use, it seems it is necessary to understand the meaning of the words ‘opposite’, ‘contrast’ and ‘converse’, as well.
