Nepalese English

Good morning everyone,
I translate English documents into Dutch for a children's organisation as a volunteer. The document I'm working on is written by a Nepalese and contains rather peculiar turns of phrases and words, such as: "bonded labourers". I think he meant something like "convicts" but I'm not sure. Can someone please give me an English equivalent of "bonded labourers"?
Thanks in advance!
