Hello,could you help me here please?
His parents were delighted when they WOULD HEAR HEARD the news
Why in this sentence do I use HEARD and not WOULD HEAR? Isn't it second conditional? Many thanks!!!!

No it is the past simple;there's no conditional here.There is no 'if clause'.
We say:
His parents were delighted when they HEARD the news.
