Tim’s plane was soon going to land in Leeds; there, he’d meet Uncle Max and told himself

Quant au 1er point, à la lecture de la phrase, il ne me semble pas qu'on parle ici de généralités, puisqu'il s'agit des avantages et des inconvénients (spécifiques au) nouveau milieu que Tim vient de découvrir et dans lequel il va évoluer. Donc, pour moi, "the" s'impose ici.

Tim’s plane was soon going to land in Leeds; there, he’d meet Uncle Max and told himself

Tim’s plane was soon going to land in Leeds; there, he’d meet Uncle Max and told himself Max would
have found a flat for him to work the following day. Then the pilot announced that a storm would be there
on that day and that there would be no return flight before the following day. At the airport, as he had been told,
Tim waited for Max to come, which didn't happen after a two hours'wait. Tim thought Max had forgotten him or that he was expecting him the following day. Tim asked a passer-by where he could get a cab or a shuttle bus to go downtown. The passer-by first asked Tim if he was French, Tim replied he couldn't be, adding his parents were both from Canada and were living in Quebec, where he had been born. Then, the former resumed:"Canada! How I wish I had had the opportunity to visit this sublime and gigantic country!" Suddenly, Tim heard his uncle asking him to hurry up and not to waste a second. Tim exclaimed that he had waited for two hours and asked Max if he had forgotten. Max objected that he couldn't, and added that there was most likely the risk of a terrible storm looming over the region, highlightening that the preceding day, meteorologists had said it would be there on that night. Max asked Tim how the trip had been. Tim confessed that he had been strongly shaken in the atmospheric disturbances that afternoon to airsickness. Tim said
that he was still all queasy, that he would like to drink a lemon tea. Then, on that day, Max's car broke down. Max asked a mechanic if he could come at the moment. He answered he could.Tim asked Max whether he could stop at a pharmacy to get some headache pills there. The latter replied they were no longer open at
that moment. Max told him he would look at the emergency chemist provided that there was one! At that point, Tim suggested that he check it out on his cell phone, to save time. The Monday morning before, Max hadn't had to worry about his nephew; he had told him he would have prepared everything for him to enjoy the time there and he would not be embarrassed. Tim had replied he was grateful and added he would have had great news. Though Max wanted to ask him what that surprise was, he remained silent. Max dropped
Tim off in his tastefully furnished studio, handed him his keys, was fully refunded in cash. When leaving,
Max exclaimed he was invited to a birthday party the following night and Tim could accompany him. Tim replied he had to go to bed early that night, and that would be for another time. Max wished he could have encouraged him to accompany him. He informed him the party would begin at midnight and he was fed up being with a homebird. Tim added he would always go home early! If that bothered him, he was really sorry... Max concluded that Tim had to operate on his patients early the following day, he wouldn't risk their lives!
Tim suggested that he had better relax and listen to soft music like the sound of river water which was soothing in case the latter would encounter insomnia, though the former wished that wouldn't have
happened. The latter exclaimed insomnia was unknown to him, added Everyone only lived once, finally
asked him if classical music would do. Actually Tim had plugged in his USB stick: their spirits calmed
down. That evening, Tim offered to order herb tea for him. Max declared he didn't need one, added he
only needed a good night's sleep at that moment. Max left. Tim exhausted, called Mariette, his future wife who had remained in Canada, promised to call her again the following evening.
- The following day, Max recounted that the party had been continuing till after dawn when he had fallen asleep there. Tim answered he didn't care. Max pointed out he was being rather rude at that moment... Tim apologised for his rudeness, kindly advised him to let him finish his week, giving him an appointment for the following Saturday evening.That night, Mariette asked Tim how things were going. He answered that everything was fine there, gave evasive replies to her because he himself didn't know the advantages or disadvantages of the new environment in full details. He nonetheless explained to her that Max hadn't changed at all. When she asked him what he meant, he answered he almost had a fit of rage because of
that inappropriate insistence; there, Max hadn't let go. Tim added he would like to get on better with him.
Tim told her he should make an effort, knowing that personality trait Mariette reminded him that Max's
son had the same temperament. Tim agreed that the previous year, he had succeeded in controlling himself. However, that night, Max outstayed his welcome. There, exhausted, Tim couldn't control himself, protested against Max who had promised him he would calm the atmosphere. That night, he asked him to get out of there in an attempt to avoid quarelling further; however he ensured him that he would soon find a solution. Max didn't expect Tim to "throw him out". Max admitted that Tim was a good boy, yet Max thought Tim
was going too far. Mariette delighted, was asked to meet him there the following week. In that flat, Tim
would get engaged to his love. There Max thought he should make a list not to forget anything on that
day. He even asked Tim whether he would like to give Mariette a puppy as a surprise when she arrived.
He answered that she would be delighted, added that he had had that same idea the preceding week even though finally, she would perhaps like a little calico cat for its three colors. Mariette had said that she
could spend all her free time which she expected to be too important if she didn't have a cat. Max replied
he didn't like cats, yet admitted that they could be funny at times when they didn't kill chicks… Max had told
her she would have one, anyway, if she was coming to kiss him, since she loved them... Mariette jumped
at his neck and kissed him, telling him that she loved him with all her heart.

se rendre au centre-ville. Le passant demanda d'abord à Tim s'il était français, Tim répondit que ça ne pouvait
pas être le cas, ajoutant que ses parents étaient tous les deux du Canada et vivaient au Québec, où il était né. Ensuite, le premier reprit : "Le Canada ! Comme j'aurais aimé avoir l'opportunité de visiter ce sublime pays
gigantesque! Tout à coup, Tim entendit son oncle lui demandant de se dépêcher et de ne pas perdre une seconde. Tim s'écria qu'il avait attendu deux heures et demanda à Max s'il avait oublié. Max objecta que cela lui était impossible et ajouta qu'il y avait probablement le risque qu'un orage épouvantable surgisse sur la région ; il souligna que la veille, les météorologues avaient dit qu'il serait là cette nuit-là. Max demanda à
Tim comment le voyage s'était déroulé. Tim avoua qu'il avait été fortement secoué dans les perturbations atmosphériques, jusqu'au mal de l'air. Tim dit qu'il était toujours barbouillé, qu'il aimerait boire un thé au citron. Puis, ce jour-là la voiture de Max tomba en panne. Max demanda à un garagiste s'il pouvait venir
tout de suite. Il répondit qu'il pouvait. Tim demanda à Max s'il pouvait s'arrêter devant une pharmacie afin d'obtenir quelques pilules contre les maux de tête là. Le dernier répondit qu'elles n'étaient plus ouvertes
à ce moment-là. Max lui a dit qu'il regarderait les pharmacies de garde à condition qu'il y en ait une !
À ce moment-là, Tim lui suggéra de le vérifier via son portable, pour gagner du temps. Le lundi matin précédent, Max n'avait pas eu à s'inquiéter pour son neveu; il lui avait dit qu'il lui aurait tout préparé pour qu'il profite du temps sur place et qu'il n'aurait pas d'embarras. Tim avait répondu qu'il lui était
reconnaissant et ajouté qu'il aurait eu une grande nouvelle. Bien que Max voulût lui demander quelle était cette surprise,il se tut. Max déposa Tim à son studio meublé avec goût, lui remit ses clés, fut intégralement remboursé en liquide. En quittant, Max s'écria qu'il était invité à un anniversaire la nuit prochaine et que Tim pouvait l'accompagner. Tim répondit qu'il devait se coucher tôt cette nuit-là et que ce serait pour une autre fois. Max aurait aimé pouvoir l'inciter à l'accompagner. Il l'informa que la fête commencerait à minuit et que ça suffisait d'être pantouflard. Tim ajouta qu'il rentrerait toujours tôt ! Si cela le dérangeait, il en était vraiment désolé ... Max conclut que Tim devait opérer ses patients tôt le lendemain, il ne risquerait pas
leurs vies ! Tim lui suggéra qu'il ferait mieux de se détendre et d'écouter de la musique douce comme le
son de l'eau de la rivière qui était bon dans le cas où le dernier rencontrerait une insomnie, bien que le premier souhaitât que cela n'eût pas lieu. Le dernier s'écria que l'insomnie lui était inconnue, ajouta que chacun n'avait qu'une vie, finalement lui demanda si de la musique classique ferait l'affaire. En fait, Tim
avait branché sa clé USB : les esprits se calmèrent. Ce soir-là, Tim proposa à Max de lui commander une tisane. Max déclara qu'il n'en avait pas besoin, et ajouta qu'il avait seulement besoin d'une bonne nuit de sommeil cette nuit-là. Max partit. Tim, épuisé, appela Mariette sa future épouse restée au Canada, promit
de la rappeler le lendemain soir. Le lendemain, Max raconta que la fête avait continué jusqu'à après l'aube où il s'y était endormi. Tim répondit que cela lui était égal. Max fit remarquer qu'il était assez impoli à cet instant là ... Tim présenta ses excuses pour son impolitesse, lui notifia gentiment de le laisser finir sa semaine, en lui donnant rendez-vous pour le samedi soir suivant. Cette nuit-là Mariette demanda à Tim comment ça allait. Il répondit que tout allait bien là, lui donna des réponses évasives puisqu'il ne connaissait lui-même encore ni les avantages ni les inconvénients du nouveau milieu en détail. Cependant, il lui expliqua que Max n'avait pas du tout changé. Quand elle lui demanda ce qu'il entendait par là, il répondit qu'il s'était presque pris un coup de colère à cause de cette insistance déplacée ; là, Max ne l'avait pas laissé tranquille. Tim ajouta qu'il
aimerait mieux s'entendre avec lui. Tim lui a dit qu'il devrait faire un effort lui-même en connaissant son trait de caractère. A se maîtriser. Cependant, cette nuit-là, Max s'incrusta. Là, épuisé, Tim ne put se maîtriser, râla contre Max qui lui avait promis qu'il détendrait l'atmosphère. Cette nuit-là, il lui demanda de sortir de là pour
éviter de disputer davantage. Néanmoins, il lui assura qu'il trouverait bientôt une solution. Max ne s'attendait pas à ce que Tim le "mette à la porte". Max reconnaissait que Tim était un bon garçon, pourtant, Max pensait que Tim allait trop loin. Mariette, ravie, fut invitée pour le rejoindre là la semaine suivante. Dans cet appartement, Tim se fiancerait à son amour. Là, Max pensa qu'il devrait faire une liste afin de ne rien oublier ce jour-là. Il demanda même à Tim s'il aimerait donner un chiot à Mariette comme une surprise quand elle arriverait. Il répondit qu'elle serait enchantée, ajouta qu'il avait eu cette même idée la semaine précédente même si finalement, elle aimerait peut-être un petit chat calico pour ses trois couleurs. Mariette avait dit qu'elle pouvait passer tout son temps libre qu'elle s'attendait à être trop important si elle n'avait pas de chat. Max répondit qu'il n'aimait pas les chats, cependant, lui accorda qu'ils pouvaient être drôles par moments quand ils ne tuaient pas les poussins ...
