Hi everyone,
I've always been told that, in English, we say:
"We have our hands in our pockets.", because "We have our hands in our pocket" means that we all have our hands in one pocket.
However, today I've come across the following sentence :"They are holding a cup", even if the picture shows 6 contestants, each having a cup in their hands.
I'm not sure what the correct sentence is here.

It depends on the context, as usual.
When you describe a picture you might say: ...here are 4 men, clasped hands holding a cup,...
