Message from mah posted on 22-08-2017 at 17:29:01 (D | E | F)
Hello everybody!
Elsewhere or somewhere else?
She was wearing somebody else's dress. Is this sentence correct?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
You can find answers in this English dictionary:

Hello,
'elsewhere' means simply 'to/in another place', of whose precise location the speaker may be aware.
Whereas 'somewhere else' generally implies that the speaker is not aware of the location.

For example:
1) Let's go somewhere else.
2) Let's go elsewhere.
In sentence (1) it would mean:
Let's go somewhere else(I don't know where but let's get out of here)

In sentence (2): it would mean
Let's go elsewhere (I know another place we could go)

But if I wrote : You will find more information on the diet ELSEWHERE in this book - CORRECT (In different part of the book).
You will find more information on the diet SOMEWHERE ELSE in this book - WRONG (somewhere, I don't know where)
So: I've lost my glasses.
Did you look under the bed?
Yes, I must have put them somewhere else - NOT elsewhere.

Hope this helps!

I am English and my mother tongue is English:

Let's go elsewhere / Let's go somewhere else mean exactly the self same thing and I would use them interchangeably.
